As close to the grove as you can get

One of the benefits of having an orange tree less than 5 steps from the house is a continual supply of fresh oranges all winter long. Taylor asked for an orange for lunch today, so what did I do, but step out on to our deck and pick a fresh one. Nevermind the fact that it was quite sour, but she didn't seem to notice or care. Hopefully this year's crop will sweeten up considerably so we can enjoy some fresh OJ.

We have a mandarin tree in our backyard and enjoy that luxury as well. Yes, they do seem to get sweeter as the winter progresses.

When we were in the States I only remember mandarins in a tin (can). I don't ever remember getting them fresh, although they must be available.

This winter has certainly been interesting so far. It is by far the coldest and wettest we've experienced in the nearly 10 years we have been in NZ. I'm back reconsidering whole house heating again. The stuff we have been experiencing for the past month is usually reserved for a couple weeks in August - then spring is just around the corner.

Hmmmmmmm - Spring seems to be a ways off yet.
